Education At Covenant

Why did we choose Covenant?
Uganda has "free" government schools but there are hidden fees. Fees called PTA fees require that per term parents pay, approximately 12,000 shillings. The PTA fees pay teachers and other expenses. Parents must also pay for school uniforms and books in order to enroll their children in school; this is where many parents fall short.

About Covenant:
Covenant Primary School is a private school in Mbale located within walking distance of the Namatala village. It has an excellent reputation and very respectable teachers. Expenses are higher to attend a private school but this is why we chose it:

  • Close proximity to Namatala village
  • Respected school and higher education of teachers
  • Private school means smaller numbers- smaller numbers means smaller classes with more face time with the teachers
  • Covenant also provides lunch, this is included in the school fees. That lunch may be the only meal the children have that day
  • They will attend Bible class everyday and chapel every Friday. They will be fed both food and the Word of God at Covenant
  • Location for sustainability and monitoring: Covenant is also on Pastor Morris Ogenga's church grounds; this is where the office of IChooseYou will reside. Volunteers can easily check their attendance and actually watch the children grow and learn
