Faizo Ndawula is a 9-year-old boy who lives with his grandmother. His father died of AIDS, and his mother is not present in the home because she is also dying of AIDS. Faizo has an older sister named Sarah. When Faizo gets home from school, he revises his books and helps his grandmother wash plates. Six people live in Faizo’s hut and he sleeps on the floor on a straw mat.
