Nakiru Betty is 8 years old. Her father died and she lives with her mother. Betty has 3 sisters and 2 brothers, ranging in age from 10 months old to 15 years old. After school she washes plates and clothes, cooks, and takes care of her little sisters. Betty’s family has lived in Namatala for 3 years, and 8 people live in her hut. She only eats once a day, and that is at school. On the weekends she is forced to resort to rummaging through the garbage.
